What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine at IHC is a distinct primary healthcare system that blends modern scientific medicine with traditional and natural forms of medicine. Naturopathic medicine is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. It includes standard pharmaceutical treatments as well as evidence-informed natural therapies, including nutraceuticals, botanical medicine, injection and IV therapies, clinical nutrition, acupuncture, lifestyle counselling, health promotion, and disease prevention.
Can Naturopathic Doctors write pharmaceutical prescriptions?
Yes. Naturopathic Doctors at the Integrated Health Clinic have full prescriptive rights for pharmaceuticals detailed within the scope of practice for naturopathic physicians in B.C.
Are Naturopathic Doctors covered under MSP?
No, Naturopathic services, including lab testing, are not covered under MSP. However, Naturopathic services are often covered under many extended health plans, so you need to check with your individual providers to clarify coverage.
Do you deal with insurance companies for direct billing?
We do not deal directly with private insurance companies. However, we do provide an invoice with each visit that details the services provided and the associated cost. This invoice can then be submitted in accordance with your insurance company’s specific guidelines.
What happens during the initial consultation?
During your initial consultation, the doctor will review your medical history, evaluate your current health concerns/issues, determine your goals of care, and conduct a physical examination as appropriate. Your visit will conclude with a review of your doctor’s recommendations for appropriate testing, treatment and follow-up.
Do I need to bring anything with me to my initial consultation?
Yes, we ask that you bring certain information with you that is appropriate to your individual circumstances. This includes:
- New Patient Intake Form (mandatory)
- Information pertinent to your medical history (conditions previously treated, allergy confirmation, surgical notes, etc.)
- Recent blood work or diagnostic imaging reports
What is your cancellation policy?
Because of the high demand we experience for treatments and consultation services, we require 24 hours notice for cancellation. We have a wait list of patients eager to attend the clinic who we can call to fill vacant appointments with sufficient notice. We appreciate your cooperation in this regard.
We will administer an appropriate cancellation fee for appointment no-shows or last-minute cancellations.
Do I need a referral to see a Naturopathic Doctor?
No, a referral is not required. We ask that you call us so we can review your particular circumstance and recommend a doctor appropriate to your needs.
