Our Story

The Integrated Health Clinic’s Cancer Care Program was founded by Dr Gurdev Parmar. With extensive experience in integrative cancer care, Dr. Parmar has conducted research on his treatment approach, established locoregional hyperthermia treatment in Canada, and serves as the President of the International Clinical Hyperthermia Society (ICHS).

The IHC is a model for a high standard of integrated healthcare delivery, emphasizing preventative medicine and individualized care. Our programs receive referrals from medical doctors, naturopathic physicians, chiropractors, physiotherapists, and specialists, including oncologists and gynecologists. Noted as forerunners in the health care sector, Dr’s. Parmar and their associates work closely with medical practitioners from all disciplines.

Dr. Parmar is the residency director and primary teaching supervisor of a naturopathic oncology residency at IHC, a CNME-approved post-doctoral training facility for Bastyr University. He established locoregional hyperthermia treatment in Canada in 2009 and was nominated President of the International Clinical Hyperthermia Society (ICHS) in 2018.

Recognized by contemporaries, Dr. Parmar received the 2024 Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians President’s Award, given to the member who exemplifies the profession and helps contribute to its advancement, vision, and mission. He was also the only ND nominated as President of the International Clinical Hyperthermia Society, an honour presented by his esteemed late mentor, Dr. Alexander Herzog, MD of Germany.

With decades of naturopathic oncology expertise and access to cutting-edge global resources, we bridge the gap between early detection and proactive prevention—helping you make informed choices with confidence, clarity, and peace of mind.

Cancer Care

Given that 1 in 2 Canadians are expected to develop cancer in their lifetime, cancer prevention is critical to longevity and overall health. Dr. Soles works with patients to assess their risk of developing cancer and provides education on how these risks can be minimized. If a cancer diagnosis has been made, she guides patients through active treatment with the intent of maximizing response and minimizing side effects, which can ultimately improve quality of life and survival. Following treatment, Dr. Soles works with patients to optimize their health and reduce the risk of recurrence.

Senior’s Health

Dr. Soles enjoys working with elderly patients to maintain health throughout the aging process and manage chronic diseases. This includes conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and cognitive decline.

Women’s Health

Women have unique health concerns that can impact their quality of life and longevity. Dr. Soles has a special interest in helping women navigate menopause and conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, premenstrual syndrome, and hypothyroidism through bioidentical hormone replacement, nutraceutical supplementation, and/or dietary and lifestyle changes.

Medical Doctor, Palliative Care Physician

Dr. Kevin Sclater, MD is a family doctor with specialist certification in palliative care. He grew up in Coquitlam, studied sciences at UBC, then graduated from medical school at the University of Calgary in 1990. Upon completion of an internship at Royal Columbian Hospital in 1991, he took over a thriving family practice in Port Coquitlam where he continues to enjoy this work. Dr. Sclater has also worked as a palliative care physician for more than 25 years. He is certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada with an “added competency in palliative care” and was previously granted certification by the American Board of Hospice & Palliative Medicine. His primary palliative care role for 19 years was as an attending doctor at Crossroads Hospice in Port Moody. He has also provided palliative care services in hospital and community settings as a consultant doctor and continues to provide some after-hours support for hospice and community clients within Fraser Health.

Who benefits from palliative care? A palliative care consultation is recommended soon after a serious illness is diagnosed so that a whole-person approach (physical-emotional-spiritual) can be applied to the treatment of the cancer or disease process. Palliative care is about how to LIVE with a serious illness … it’s not just about planning for the end. Palliative care doctors are also consulted to help treat the more difficult symptoms that can sometimes be associated with advanced cancer and cancer-related therapies.

Dr. Sclater will be working on Tuesdays at the White Rock location starting in January 2024. When patients are referred by their family doctor (or nurse practitioner), the consultation fee is covered by MSP (Medical Services Plan of BC). Dr. Sclater has developed an increasing interest in naturopathic treatments over the past few years and has increasingly adopted more of these therapies into his family practice. He now looks forward to joining the IHC team, collaborating with the naturopathic doctors, learning more about integrative oncology, and providing an extra layer of support for patients and families who are facing the challenges of a serious cancer diagnosis.
